Olivia Shaffer is an independent dance artist, performer, improviser and teacher based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her formative training includes 10 years of Cecchetti Ballet and a BFA in Dance from Simon Fraser University's School for the Contemporary Arts. Her movement practice includes Contact Improvisation, somatic movement and Pilates.
As a freelance dancer Olivia works for many local companies and independent artists. She has recently had the pleasure of working on projects directed by Peter Bingham/EDAM Dance, Helen Walkley, Alvin Tolentino/Co. ERASGA, Starr Muranko/Starrwind Dance Projects, Vanessa Goodman/Action at a Distance, and Delia Brett & Daelik/MACHiNENOiSY
As a creator and improviser, Olivia's work has been presented by Shooting Gallery Performance Series, In the House Festival, BLOOM, Art for Impact and 12 Minutes Max.
Olivia has avidly pursued dance projects outside North America, including a semester in Ghana, an apprenticeship with a company in Israel, a creation residency in Italy, a Contact Improvisation festival in Ukraine and workshops across Europe.
