Olivia Shaffer is a contemporary dance artist, teacher of Contact Improvisation (CI) and certified Pilates Matwork instructor based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She teaches CI at EDAM Dance and Leviathan Studio and teaches Pilates at False Creek Community Centre and Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga.
As a choreographer and improviser, Olivia creates dance. Her work has been presented by Shooting Gallery Performance Series, In the House Festival, BLOOM, Art for Impact and The Dance Centre's 12 Minutes Max.
As a freelance performer Olivia dances with Peter Bingham/EDAM Dance, Alvin Tolentino/Co. ERASGA, Starr Muranko/Starrwind Dance Projects and Delia Brett & Daelik/MACHiNENOiSY, among others.
Olivia holds a BFA and a Liberal Arts Certificate from the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University. Olivia pursues international dance projects and training; this has included a semester in Ghana, West Africa, an apprenticeship with a dance company in Israel, a creation residency in Italy, a Contact Improvisation festival in Ukraine and dance training across Europe. Olivia has a dedicated practice in Contact Improvisation, dance improvisation and somatic-based movement studies with mentors Peter Bingham and Helen Walkley, respectively.
