Olivia Shaffer is a contemporary dance artist, teacher of Contact Improvisation and certified Pilates Matwork instructor based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
As a choreographer and improviser, Olivia creates dance pieces. Her work has been presented by Shooting Gallery Performance Series, In the House Festival, BLOOM, Art for Impact and The Dance Centre's 12 Minutes Max.
As a freelance dancer Olivia performs with Peter Bingham/EDAM Dance, Helen Walkley, Alvin Tolentino/Co. ERASGA, Starr Muranko/Starrwind Dance Projects and Delia Brett & Daelik/MACHiNENOiSY, among others.
Olivia holds a BFA and a Liberal Arts Certificate from the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University. Olivia pursues international dance projects and training; this has included a semester in Ghana, West Africa, an apprenticeship with a dance company in Israel, a creation residency in Italy, a Contact Improvisation festival in Ukraine and dance workshops across Europe. Since 2011, Olivia has a dedicated practice in Contact Improvisation, dance improvisation and somatic-based movement studies with mentors Peter Bingham and Helen Walkley, respectively.
Olivia teaches Contact Improvisation at EDAM Dance and Leviathan Studio. Olivia teaches Pilates Matwork at Douglas Park Community Centre and Ron Zalko Fitness & Yoga.
