Exploring Contact Improvisation with the inhabitants of Pacific Spirit Park

This project is seed material, inspired by the parameter of dancing beyond the studio. This detour has unfolded the endless capacities for movement and creation outdoors.

As I enter the forest, I extend my senses to the animals, organisms, and other entities that dwell there. What community relationships are already taking place in the forest? Where do I fit in and how might I assimilate? What is the story we tell ourselves that justifies our actions in this present moment? I have been reminded that our environment is not only the background to our dance. For me, this work helps bring what is often backgrounded to the foreground, and within that emergence, I have found another place for my dancing body to discover.
